Another Addition to the Equipment List

I just bought an Ebtech HUMX Voltage Hum Filter for the show, so I can cut out the nasty hum that an episode has before the final edit. Luckily, you listeners haven't heard this sound because I use the "noise removal" tool in audacity. However, this makes for a much less professional presentation, because the noise canceling technology itself does some damage to the quality of the show, believe it or not. You might notice a weird background noise when you listen, like I'm underwater. That's the side effect of canceling out that never ending hum. This little device, that plugs into my wall socket, will cut that out, almost completely, so I can turn up the gain (volume) of the pre-amps on the mixer and the compressor.

If you want to know why this hum occurs, it's because of the electrical system. My home is more than eighty years old, and the box that powers it is not, but the wires are. Yes, wires really do matter. RF (Radio Frequency) noise has a much easier time invading your recording system when you don't have good lines running through your walls. I'd rather not pay for that to be fixed, so the Ebtech Hum Filter will do the job just right for the right price.

I know this might sound a little too technical, but it's important that I inform you on the status of the show and where it's headed. iTunes just accepted every single feed that I posted, one for every night of the week, plus the feed containing all of them. I'd really appreciate it if listeners went into the iTunes Music Store and rated the show. That'd help tremendously, and sift out all that mediocrity you see when it comes to podcasting. It's great that anyone can do it, but it really isn't fun when podcast directories are featuring shows that ended a year ago.
